As voracious readers, at times, we feel weighed down by our reading commitments and challenges. So for all such readers like me, here’s a little nudge to keep you going. Here are a few of my favorite quotes from famous literary people we’ve grown to love. For those who read incessantly without the need for a nudge at all, cheers! May you enjoy the post. 🙂
- When I get a little money, I buy books. If any is left, I buy food and clothes. — Erasmus
- There is no friend as loyal as a book. — Ernest Hemingway
- I am simply a ‘book drunkard.’ Books have the same irresistible temptation for me that liquor has for its devotee. I cannot withstand them. — L. M. Montgomery
- Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them. — Lemony Snicket
- A book is a gift you can open again and again. — Garrison Keillor
- We read to know we are not alone. — C. S. Lewis
- The greatest gift is a passion for reading. — Elizabeth Hardwick
- If we encounter a man of rare intellect, we should ask him what books he reads. — Ralph Waldo Emerson
- Read the best books first, or you may not have a chance to read them at all. — Henry David Thoreau
- I never need to find time to read. When people say to me, ‘Oh, yeah, I love reading. I would love to read, but I just don’t have time,’ I’m thinking, ‘How can you not have time?’ I read when I’m drying my hair. I read in the bath. I read when I’m sitting in the bathroom. Pretty much anywhere I can do the job one-handed, I read. — J. K. Rowling
What are your favorite book quotes? Do share them with me. I’d love to read them. 😛

I started reading when I was 2 but didn’t really get into reading until I was 6 and had access to the school library. I had finished reading the first grade section of the library by the end of the fall semester and had to get the principal’s permission to start reading the second grade section. When I finished the school library in third grade, I discovered the public library. After that, on to the university library.
When I went off to college at Texas A&M University, I discovered traditions, and traditions meant long lines for sporting events, concerts, yearbook distribution, senior ring pickup, meals. I learned to always take something to read with me so that it never bothered me to wait in a line. Still do that…. post office lines, grocery store lines, doctor office waiting….. makes no difference. Just provides me with more time to read.

It’s a mutual ritual for years, I must say. Sadly we do not have public libraries in our area, and while still in school, school libraries did fill the gap for me. Ever since after school, renting books out at the street-side stalls has been a customary thing I do. Your words took me back to my days.

Good nudges! I have started to get back into reading again and am making reading targets for myself. [A couple of books a month – starting small!] As for that JK quote, well, I’m happy it comes so easily to her, but I don’t find it as easy as she suggests. Maybe I’m doing something wrong! 😛

Anything that gets the reading wheels rolling again is worth an effort. I go at a pace of finishing 4-5 books a month and sometimes 1 book in 4-5 months. 😋 Maybe you are maybe not. But as long as you are doing it, I guess it’s all right.
Personally, I find Rowling’s quotes quite inspiring. It does fix a nerve or two for me. 🤓

If you know how to read, then you will learn to speak well if you speak well , then you will think even better, The best thing my parents taught to do was read … that quote is by …Me.
I live this every day if you know how to read no one can take away the power of your mind and the ability to think and reason

Smart! That quote fits in so well, Jerry. You’re parents did a cool job fixing you with reading at an early age.
Your reasoning is fair. I quite agree too. Reading empowers our persona, intellect, logic and thought process.
Keep it up, buddy. 🤓

Here are few of the quotes I love most
“A reader lives thousand lives before he dies ,the one who never reads lives only one” George Martin
” You know , you have read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a good friend” Paul Sweeney
“Book love is something like romantic love. When we are reading a good book ,burdens feel lighter, cares seem smaller” Steve Leveen
Last one by myself …my thinking about study books
A good book is a just like a teacher which explains you all the minute and basic fundamentals that will not only help you to get good marks but will be also helpful in your dream career
