For the past few months, I have been writing poetry, a lot. I’ve realized it makes me feel relaxed, unbound. My diary is full with a lot of them. Some have made it to Instagram, some just lie between its pages; hopeful.
But I haven’t written anything for a long time. And by that, I mean the informative posts on writing better where I share my experience of things, as they happen to me. The last one I shared was Ways to proofread Your Writing which has proved to be very useful in last few years.
Having completed 5 years of blogging last month, I have realized one thing,
Writing is an addiction. If it does not become an addiction, you are not doing it right.
5 years ago, I wasn’t sure of any bit of it. Heck! I didn’t even know what blogging means. Seems like only yesterday when I wrote down my initial thoughts as a newbie. There were many such times when apprehensions got the good of me and I almost gave up. Consequently, the first 3 years I managed a paltry total of 150 odd posts. But 5 years hence, I have teens and newbies inspired by this blog and doing their own writing; some even have their blogs. That makes me believe I might be doing something right.
A friend whose writing I admire, wrote to me telling me that he thought I had more life in my writings than most of the works he’s seen. Another writer I recently happened to meet through Tumblr said, “One must have been through a lot to have so much beauty and pain in their writing.”
All this must sound boastful of me; which I have no intention to be, but I have only one thing to say,
When you have your heart in something, it finds a way to shine out of you.
Many years ago, Charles Bukowski’s quote left an indelible mark upon my soul. Most of you who have been a part of my journey will know by now how much I admire him.
The quote is,
Find what you love and let it kill you.
And I’d found writing. Nothing has a mirror to my heart as my writings. It gets the good and bad of me. And it’s kept me going these past 5 years.
Here’s what I’ve learned about blogging or writing, as a whole.
-
Write for yourself; only that matters.
-
Give no shit about what people think; it hardly matters.
-
Don’t judge your writing; you never judge your baby.
-
Read everything you find; nothing helps better.
-
Never give up; if the ink dries up, you don’t throw away the pen.
That’s all folks. What do you think of these blogging lessons? Agree much? No? Do share your thoughts.
Happy writing till we meet next.
Until then, carpe diem! 🙂

“Find what you love and let it kill you” This is the first time I heard this quote but it speaks so much! It’s true especially for blogging. I remember when I first started out and looking at where I am now, I know for sure this love for writing and expressing my thoughts aren’t going away anytime soon. I loved this post! Congratulations on 5 years!

Loved this! It is so important to stay true to your writing and write for yourself. I think often times people forget that and write with the purpose of getting big instead, and it reflects it in their works, it lacks a sort of passion.

One thing I learned about writing is that it is linked with reading thinking and spelling . In other words if you know how to read you know how to spell if you know how to spell you know how to write…if you know how to write you know how to think if you know how to think…any thing is possible.

Well, that’s definitely a smart way of looking at it. But when it comes to editing, do you believe in such a theory?

Such a simple post but with so much soul in it. As a newbie writer I am still figuring it out. Poetry really gets my emotions going or the other way around. And yep Writing is an addiction: I haven’t been able to get to the laptop these days as often as I would want to but have started writing on paper instead.

It does take some time before you get the hang of things in blogging. When you finally find the motivation to keep going no matter what, is when it will be a real addiction. But hang in there, I’d say.

It was just bcz I am too introvert and that time I found it difficult to interact with them so one of my friend named me this… Maybe they thought that I was too lonely…😂

I love that you put never give up at the end. I think people find things that frustrate them almost on a daily basis. It can be something as small as leaving something at home to getting into a car crash. We might want to give up, but life still goes on and it’s better to keep going and get good results than to quit and get no results at all.

As humans, we readily believe we might never make it than actually believe we can. And thus I wanted to emphasize on that. Thank you, Athena, for adding more power to the post.

It is, but sometimes you need to follow your passion (if there is no other word)
Better, I got it. If you notice, I have mentioned a few times that being happy is a priority and its ok to be selfish to be happy.
That means, as long as no one is hurt, it is good to be queer if necessary
Important thing is that no one should be hurt
