What exists if not our observation? Sometimes, mindful, but most times, just mindless observations. Tying our stories to the places we’ve been, the conversations we’ve eavesdropped on, the queer faces we’ve seen, the secrets we’ve stepped on. That’s the birth-ground to our stories.
Having a natural instinct to observe the tiniest happenings around you may help you in ways you may not have experienced yet. But it aids your writing. Nature has a queer way of communicating. Take out time and see what’s around. I do believe that other than reading, it is curious observation that sparks a writer’s imagination.
And if writers stop observing, they’re finished, quite literally. So said Hemingway too.
What do you think? How crucial is having an inclination to observe things happening around us; especially, for a writer? Do share your thoughts below.

Love Hemingway. He’s completely right. I get too lost in my own introspection and I realize I have no fodder, no way to grow. I have to look outside myself.

It is an innate ability of a writer to keep observing things.A writer can’t stop this characteristic feature as the visuals he see,the emotions he undergoes, the journey he experiences makes his writings holistic. It is one of the essentials of a writer and if that is stopped ,writings will not be soulful!!!!!!

You are absolutely right, Manju. I guess that’s what really makes a writer. Every word comes with an experience you have either felt or seen someone feel. It plays a great role in shaping you.

As well as being able to see the big picture, without getting lost in minutiae.

I think to be a writer, you first have to be an observer of humanity in all its forms.

I need to remember that. Often, I tend to miss things while chasing a set of other important details.

There can be no bigger inspiration for creativity than life. Imagination also needs a trigger of reality .

I believe it is incredibly important to have an inclination to observe, especially for a writer! Observation is the key to inspiration and the ability to write details in day to day life that are needed but not necessarily always apparent. In order to write about life, you must observe everything you can about life, it is a necessity and helps to distinguish great writers.

The best stories come from book called life; whether that’s your own or of those around you.
Thank you.
