with a reckless hope
that had left me
ashore
the last time
I was at the banks
of the ocean called love
I could hardly believe
this time
how those beautiful waves
accepted me
as if it had never denied me
my share

I’m sorry, I should’ve clarified. To One In Paradise is one of my favourite poems by EAP. It’s elusive, beautiful and amplifies his longing for love, hence it the weight of its sadness didn’t let you soar in delight. I need a bigger conversation for this. Alan Parsons has created musical renditions of most of Poe’s works. This poem is one of those. You should check them out (I’ll help you with the links). The poem and the song concludes with, “and all my days are trances, and all my nightly dreams are where thy dark eye glances, or where thy footstep gleams in what ethereal dances by what eternal streams”
