Hello, readers and writers! What are you up to? Enjoying the festive season or fretting over new year resolutions? Whichever has you by grips, I hope you are writing much and well at that!
About writing.
Writing is all about streamlining your thoughts. Or may be not! Because when you give up the streamlining is when imagination kicks in. And getting caught up in the creative swirls is one of the best things that can happen to a writer.
Does your imagination fuel your writing? Or are you the kind of writer who relies on research and facts to get their wheels rolling? Or is it both?
In my opinion, imagination serves as a never-ending pool of writing fodder. It’s like a well; the more you draw from it, the fuller it gets. And all you have then to do is put that damn pen to paper and start frolickin’. Here’s a much relevant quote that you might like.
What do you think? How important is one’s imagination in shaping up one’s writing? Do share your thoughts below.
Happy reading till we meet next.
Until then, carpe diem! 🙂

It indeed is. And I guess anything at all; even something as trivial as a needle and ball of yarn, can spur your imagination. Thanks, Angela.

Perhaps because I grew up as an only child, I’ve never really suffered from a lack of imagination. My issues are more about culling and selecting and staying on one topic long enough to really do it justice. I’d be especially interested in your take on this post on imagination. I am pointing out that many adults use it — but only to make themselves miserable or to *limit* what they think they can do rather than *expand* what they can do. https://petersironwood.com/2018/12/14/imagination/

Each day you wake up, you wake up with billions around the world but when the sun sets, not all retire. It is a joyful privilege to note that you are a unique person among billions of people who wake up each day to walk on the surface of the earth. It is a noble responsibility to note that you have to use this privilege effectively.

Imagination fuels my words and expression, though I want to rely on extensive research in adding depth and spice to the narration. Well done, Asha.

I agree, Vishal. While imagination lays the foundation, research forms the material to support it with.

Research is important, but without imagination to use that research it is pointless!

I agree. Imagination is the skeleton with research the matter to support it with.

I started writing again about two years ago and I wrote only when I got inspiration. Now, I invite inspiration and write when I want to, whether I have inspiration initially or not. This made me realize that inspiration is not limited and once you open it up, you can take as much from it as you want.

Well said. Inspiration is not limited to your mood or imaginative prowess.

Brilliant post! My favourite saying is ‘your words, your world, create your way’ and originality comes from your own imagination 🙂

I like that. Fits perfectly for a motivational manifesto.

I agree. I am the type that goes all out, no hold bar sort attitude when it comes to writing. The only time I do research is if I am stuck on how to proceed a character particular trait, habit, or line of work and other type of research is to review a product. I may know the ins and out of said item, but I may need a refresher from time to time.

I am quite that type of writer myself. I resort to research only if I need a headway. Else I pretty much scribble relying on my own wits.

Absolutely agree with you Asha. Imagination is the trigger to my writing…..rarely on research. Loved that quote by Philip Farmer. !

For me, the more I read and write the more my world is a blank page at every turn. I view the world and what I see as a possible idea for a writing piece. My imagination is in full swing, and I’m so grateful for that. Most definitely, the more I use it, the more it works for me.

Could not agree more. I feel upset if I cannot manage enough imagination for my poetry. Imagination is key to creative writing!
